LA native here. I've been going to Japan during winter in the last 3 trips lol. I love the snow coming down when you visit a temple like Kiyomuzi Dera. It's a lot better than going to Japan during the humid summer.

How does the humidity feel during Aug/Sept compared to California? I'm from So Cal and I don't think I've ever experienced the type of humidity that people describe in Japan.

I'm same as you. I was there during first week of may. It was high 80's with humidity. God awful. It was hotter than any 110 dry heat. It was horrible

Also from socal and was there in Sept '23 and Jan '25 Just pack more clothes in the Winter and it's totally fine but Summer is just miserable. You're constantly wet from the humidity - if you're only used to our dry heat, you will not want to be outside at all.

This is a good deal for SA - they really deserve their great reviews.
