Not really, they make significant changes and the showrunners really didn't get the world or universe that it's being set in. It's an atrocious adaptation.
Got through 7 books, realized nothing had happened in two books and that there were 7 to go and quit.
It's for some people, but I'll never go back. Read anything by Brandon Sanderson instead.
I only got through the first few episodes of season 2 and they did a hard departure for many things. I think I'd watch it more like... a fan remake of the book than a book to screen kind of situation. it didn't seem as bad as how The Sword of Truth was mangled, but similar vibes.

Brandon Sanderson killed the ending of wheel of time. Turned 1 book into 3 just to make money. The wheel of time starts slow but everything starts weaving to the center and it's beyond worth it until you get to where Sanderson killed the story.

Agreed that he didnt do a great job at concluding the series. But I dont know that anyone could have done a great job. He killed some of the characterization. Jordan's writing had some issues and I hated Perrin throughout, but the highs were HIGH... Sanderson just doesn't do characters as well, and Matt especially (my favorite) just didn't feel right.
is the TV adaptation close to the books? I know books are always better but does the show follow the books pretty closely?
Not close. It's pretty bad. Ruined my favorite series. The books are amazing and read them all a few times and listened to the audio books which were even better. Highly recommend this and not the tv show.

The TV show is a retelling of the story rather than following the books - there are some significant changes. I think the show is great, but it's aimed primarily at people new to the series and does some near things in that regard. I can see how someone who expected the show to follow the books would be disappointed.

In that case why make it Wheel of Time? Just make an original series so both newcomers AND fans can enjoy it and not be pissed off, lol.

The part I would give Jordan a lot of credit for is not showing or explaining everything. And being willing to leave outcomes as ambiguous.
Most of Sanderson's books felt pretty slow to me. All the authors that push to 1k pages tend to have really slow parts.
The first several books of this series are fantastic. I really enjoyed them.
Spoilers:
The first books build up to an epic confrontation. A confrontation that doesn't happen. Can you imagine a book that slowly builds up to an epic battle... begins to drag it's feet more and more - and when the confrontation finally arrives, the scene fades to black and a cue card appears that reads "the day after..."
That's basically what happens. To date, this remains the largest disappointment in any book I've read to date.
One could imagine that Jordan didn't know how to deliver the ending, so he... didn't. I'm curious about what happened. Despite this, I read several more books in the series, but they weren't good. Not only did nothing happen in them, the characters changed, as if someone else who hadn't read the series picked it up. I stopped reading after that.
This series was supposed to be a trilogy. While I think there's more content to it than that, several of the books could be removed entirely... and it needs an ending.
You should also note that the author (Robert Jordan) unfortunately passed away while writing what was supposed to be the final book in the series. The series was then completed by another author, although it was split into three books.
Others don't seem to have the same problems with the stories that I do (which I find shocking). As always, YMMV. This does seems like a good deal. Perhaps I'll revisit the series to see if my perspective has changed... and actually finish it.

On another note, can I read these on my kindle and if yes, will these support whispersync?
