Can anyone vouch for the quality? Have been burnt twice by the zipper tearing apart during travel.

Great for an infrequent traveler, not great for a frequent one. ABS just isn't as impact resistant as Polycarbonate.

carry on is also too heavy...almost half of the allowed weight limit.

Which one would you recommend? I have an international trip coming up :-)

We have a very similar set of AT luggage in all 3 sizes (nesting dolls). The midsize one just blew out a wheel after 3 years, 3 international trips including lots of cobblestones, plus a few roadtrips in between. I'd definitely buy again. The weight isn't a big factor except on the largest ones, it can go over 50# with just clothes. The carryons, not even close. It's a small suitcase on wheels, a couple lbs over the elite ultralight models isn't going to kill you.

The ABS has dented in a couple corners, but nothing near a catastrophic failure.

IIRC, we paid about $125 for all three, but this one still seems like a good price.

Although 1½ inches over the very common overall circumference allowance of 62", this is most likely not a problem. Overall size checked only if the luggage visually seems to be over the limit.

Here's an arm-chair-pro-tip: spinners must have double wheels, ie 8 wheels; the 4 wheels ones are hard pass 100% of the time. The wheels themselves matter a lot too, but that's hard to explain and identify which are the good ones.

Is that an international flight thing? Because I have never had my carry on weighed flying domestic.

I have bad experience with Air India, United, American, and almost all european airlines... maybe its my bad luck... but now I carry only extremely light backpacks... my carry-ons has to be less than 2 lbs.
