If you don't like the "free" games of the month you can hold off activating Meta+ for 3 months.
Games claimed for "free" through the subscription are only accessible with an active subscription.
$30 credit for those that use a friend link prior to device setup (it's a ban-able offense on SD to post/request such links but check Reddit)
ALL SALES ARE TARGETED meaning they could offer 50% off to one account and no sale for another.
When buying games check for developer links to save a flat 15-20% when no active sale on the game.
You're going to want a better strap and there's 2 or 3 great options for under $100. Some have hot swap batteries.
If yoi have glasses or a stigmatism there are snap on prescription lenses you for $20 on sites or $50 direct from Meta.
The max credit you can attain per year is $599 (anything $600+ is taxable)
The 4th gen headset is expected 2026/2027
There's free 3rd party software like OcularMigraine that improves visuals at the cost of battery life.
The games with PCVR need the Meta app for PC and many others recommend Virtual Desktop when on sale.
You do not need to link FB/IG to your account can use a normal email account.
If you mess up the $30 link you have 7 days to click a $30 link and factory reset your headset and go through initial setup to get it. Otherwise you need a good bit of personal info from the other person for support to process it. Sometimes there's a promo for $60 credit so check the app.
There's no crossbuy and if you see it that means it gives you a Meta PC copy you need the app to play.
360 videos through the YouTube app are not true 4K and should be downloaded to view uncompressed.
Rechargeable batteries for the controllers are a must as they take 1 AA each.
Activate 2 factor authentication and set a pin for purchases to minimize accidents. There is a small return window for purchases but YMMV with support.
Those with GeForceNow can use it with the headset but the experience is not amazing yet.
Do NOT expose headset or lenses to direct or reflected sunlight (use a cover)
If you owned a Quest2 and purchase a Quest3 you may still be able to get the $30 activation credit.
Do NOT leave the headset charging for hours unsupervised or with 3rd party plugs/cables
Always read reviews as Most Recent and check online for in dept reviews.
I've accidentally punched my headset during a vr workout and thankfully it was fine but mind your surroundings.
Meta+ is not needed to use the headset (my 3 month trial just ran out)
These sales are rare but usually retailers give a $50 credit rather than cut a direct discount. Also Target may price match and you'd save an additional 5% with a red/circle card which would be ~ $12
Edit: The 3S low storage is not ideal. Many games are only a few GB but some are 30-60GB but that shouldn't be too much of an issue if you delete games regularly after you've beaten or tried them.
I say this with reserve on SD, but if money isn't a factor in buying an item like this - splurge for the Quest 3 if able. The lenses (pancake vs fresnel) and resolution increase is worth the premium price. While they have the same cpu hardware, the Quest 3 will give a much better experience. This is an instance where saving some cash will cost more in the long run - the experience.
Go to Reddit and make sure to get a promo code for $30 meta cash. I HIGHLY suggest using that promo cash and buy Virtual Desktop. It is unbelievably amazing - from browser watching Plex to SteamVR with a good PC. EmuVR is an amazing experience for those wanting a video game nostalgia trip.
Also get Sidequest, the PC companion app to help side load Quest apps and games for free. It's not piracy but a legitimate ecosystem for freeware. And while speaking of piracy… there are definitely high seas for sailing on Reddit.

Rules are rules and I'd personally not like to be banned for breaking them on SD. If you choose to break them then you may face the consequences of your actions
yea there just aren't any consequences though, that's my point. You can even view the site without logging in. I have like 9 accounts because I can't be bothered to write down my password or reset it lol I just make a new one cause it doesn't matter!
I have a 2 and a 3, and while I'm all for people getting into VR affordably, if you can save/splurge for a 3 I whole heartedly vote you do so on a 3 instead of a 3s. It's absolutely, drastically, indescribably better than the 2's lenses. As others have mentioned, if you have a decent gaming PC your first purchase should be Virtual Desktop (there are free alternatives ofc from Steam and Oculus, but there's a reason people pay for VD) which allows you to play games wirelessly on the headset from your PC. If you don't have a gaming rig, you should absolutely look into Quest Game Optimizer (normally goes on sale for $5 or $7) look up some before/after videos on youtube, it's worth every penny (it will drain your battery quicker due to higher resolution textures being used and more stress on the gpu/cpu) -- with that said your next purchase will want to be an external battery and a decent USB-C cable with a right angle plug. I use the "AINOPE USB C Cable to USB C 60W 2-Pack 6.6ft" cables that go on sale regularly for $5 or so, and the battery "INIU Portable Charger, 22.5W 20000mAh" which I see go on sale usually for $15 or so. This will keep the headset going strong for 3+ hr (if you're interested in such long sessions) even with Games Quest Optimizer running.
Lastly, find someone you know who already has a headset and let them refer you before you register your device, this gives you both $30 credit when you do (PM me if you have no one else! ) plus if they own Virtual Desktop that'll give you an additional discount (I believe 15%) for any app/game they own which they can refer you to.
TL;DR - Get the Quest3 instead of 3S if you can afford it (or save for it) -- Get Virtual Desktop if you have a good gaming PC, if not get GamesQuestOptimizer (sideloaded), an external battery, a right angle usb-c cable, and enjoy.
Games I heavily recommend for (older folks like myself who don't want to deal with squeakers):
- Walkabout Mini Golf (sounds boring, but it's absolutely amazing, and is on the Meta Quest+ library for free)
- Demeo (I'm not a fan of card games like D&D but this one is great, no rush/hassle and good for meeting up with friends)
