I was about to jump on the deal but many reviews said they had wifi and issues connecting it to the app. A good deal for someone who's willing to deal with it

I had my 3rd gen for about 4 years. It was great until the battery stopped charging. The wifi is setup to not run if it senses the battery is unable to charge. Took me trying to reattach it about a dozen times before I looked up why it wasn't connecting...Had to get the 4th gen in the middle of winter. All in all it's a pretty nice improvement over 3rd gen except the front display material. 3rd gen was glass and the 4th gen is some sort of plastic that literally scratched while cleaning it with a glasses cloth 🙄.

Just a FYI with smart google products is they will eventually change something to break the functionality.

My thermostat stopped responding to voice commands from my mini's just a couple days ago. Nothing changed just something google decided to do.

Specifically, "turn thermostat on" worked for the past 3 years, now when I issue the same command it says "sorry it looks like that thermostat hasnt been set up yet"...

I can still turn on my thermostat from the google home app or the nest app, so it is set up.

On the off chance someone from google reads this, please stop breaking your smart products!

I've been using the 3rd gen for about 6 months, no issues with wifi or turning the heat on/off with alexa.

Check your utility company first. Got 2 for free when we bought our house. One from PSEG LI and other from National Grid

Hmm, tempted as that model will work as an upgrade to my 1st gen Nest, but recently got the Ecobee Smart Enhanced from PSEG for $59

I've been having the same issue with my Nest thermostat for the last year or so. The battery will occasionally just stop charging and the thermostat will disconnect itself from wifi. For anyone looking at this deal maybe hold off on these older models.

There's a known issue with the wifi chip in this model. I've had two go out the year I bought them. Then one of the replacements broke 6 months later too. Google Nest 3rd Gen w5 code.

Considering you can get the base nest for free from most utility providers, I can't see why you would pay for this. Yes the ring is nice, better display. But the functionality is the same (to my knowledge)

Lots of YouTube videos on how to replace the non replaceable battery. Make sure to watch, as if you break the connector, the thermostat becomes a doorstop.
