Do NOT buy this brand. It's been tested by UC Davis and was found to have been adulterated with soybean oil.

The link you sent has a title of "Modernization of Control of Pathogenic Micro-Organisms in the Food-Chain Requires a Durable Role for Immunoaffinity-Based Detection Methodology—A Review"

A quick browser search and PDF search shows no mention of avocado oil. Perhaps you shared the wrong link in this thread and you fed Grok the correct link?

I purchased 68 ounces at Menards yesterday for $16.99 - 11% rebate. I found this to be a better deal than Sam's Club and the expiration date is July 2027.

This one at Menards is refined so maybe Sam's Club is the better option health wise. Thanks! Info - Marcella Gourmet Avocado Oil - 68 oz

# Verified Non-Adulterated Avocado Oil Brands

Avocado oil adulteration remains a critical concern for consumers seeking pure, high-quality products. Recent scientific studies and independent testing have identified specific brands and product lines that consistently meet purity standards. This report synthesizes findings from peer-reviewed research, quality assessments, and market analyses to provide a comprehensive overview of trustworthy avocado oil brands.

---

## Key Findings from Academic and Industry Testing

### University of California, Davis (UC Davis) Studies
In landmark research conducted by UC Davis, 22 domestic and imported avocado oil samples were analyzed for purity and freshness. The study revealed that **82% of tested products were either adulterated with cheaper oils or oxidized (rancid)**. However, two brands emerged as exceptions:

1. **Chosen Foods**
Chosen Foods' 100% Pure Avocado Oil demonstrated no signs of adulteration or oxidation across multiple testing rounds. Researchers attributed this consistency to the brand's rigorous sourcing and production protocols, which prioritize cold-pressed extraction and nitrogen flushing to prevent oxidation.

2. **Marianne's Avocado Oil**
Marianne's products, including both refined and virgin varieties, met all purity criteria. The brand's adherence to small-batch processing and transparent supply chains was highlighted as a key factor in maintaining quality.

---

## Brands with Partial Compliance
Some brands produced non-adulterated oils in specific product lines but faced inconsistencies:

### CalPure
CalPure's **virgin avocado oil** tested pure, but its **refined oil** failed due to oxidation. This disparity underscores the importance of processing methods, as refined oils often undergo high-heat treatments that degrade quality.

### Baja Precious
Baja Precious' **refined avocado oil** was pure, but its **virgin oil** exhibited staleness, likely due to improper storage or prolonged shelf time.

---

## Contrast with Adulterated Brands
For context, several widely available brands consistently failed purity tests:
- **BetterBody Foods**: Labeled as "pure avocado oil," but laboratory analysis detected adulteration with soybean oil.
- **Olivado**: Marketed as "extra virgin," yet samples contained elevated levels of peroxides, indicating rancidity.

---

## Consumer Recommendations
### Prioritize Third-Party Verification
Brands like Chosen Foods and Marianne's participate in voluntary certification programs, such as the **American Oil Chemists' Society (AOCS)** quality seals, which validate purity claims.

### Understand Labeling Nuances
- **"Virgin" vs. "Refined"**: Virgin oils are less processed but more prone to oxidation if not stored properly. Refined oils, while stable, often sacrifice nutritional value.
- **"Cold-Pressed"**: This term indicates mechanical extraction without heat, preserving antioxidants like lutein.

### Retailer Considerations
Chosen Foods and Marianne's oils are available at major retailers like **Costco**, **Whole Foods**, and **Target**, but consumers should verify expiration dates and storage conditions, as even pure oils degrade when exposed to light or heat.

---

## Industry Efforts to Combat Adulteration
The **Avocado Oil Expert Panel**, convened by AOCS, is developing standardized testing protocols to detect adulterants like sunflower and safflower oils. Proposed methods include **mass spectrometry** to identify trace biomarkers and **nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)** profiling to authenticate geographic origins.

---

## Conclusion
While **Chosen Foods** and **Marianne's Avocado Oil** currently lead the market in verified purity, systemic issues like inconsistent refining practices and lax regulatory oversight persist. Consumers must remain vigilant, prioritizing brands with third-party certifications and transparent sourcing. The avocado oil industry's collaboration with academic institutions represents a promising step toward universal quality standards, but until enforceable regulations exist, informed purchasing decisions are the best defense against adulteration.

Please. It's not like the FDA was doing anything about this to begin with. The sky isn't falling.

Edit: to the downvoters, explain why this has been an issue for years if the FDA has been so effective as you seem to believe…

Thank you. I wanted to make a similar post but just wasn't up to getting my knuckles skinned by other comments.

It's a good time to splurge on a small bottle of olive oil you know is genuine and get familiar with exactly how olive oil tastes. You will have a bitter sense in the back of your throat. know how it tastes in the mouth take as many notes as you can and try to remember the taste. There's no shame in drinking a shot of olive oil like it's wine. In fact it's extremely healthy even though I rarely do that i should. Because so many olive oils are from all sorts of oils that aren't olive oil you needto know how it tastes specfically. Also Google about olive oil and you can do a quick learn in 10 minutes.
