No, they send china the metallurgical "recipe" and then hope against hope they don't monkey with it too much, and then slap everything together as quickly and cheaply as they can.

Junk knives, utterly disposable.

Wow, you seem so knowledgeable about knife making.

It's been my experience that Costco does not sell junk, and if they do, they are happy to take it back for a full refund.

I love Costco, but I bought their Cangshan knives and had all of the handles crack.

Made in China, so most Slickdealers would probably be better served by getting the next German deal that comes around.

I assume the return process was very easy though?
No retailer is perfect. While Costco does a great job ensuring that most of their SKUs are high quality items, every now and then they misjudge, but at least they are willing to fix their mistake by offering a full refund.

Respectfully, Costco has been selling some "lesser-than" products these past years. It started w/the craze on the Pendleton blankets during covid that were far form its quality. They've sold heinkel knives and other products which were not "truly" Heinkel; the double-icon is not the same as the singular badge, though technically made by the same company.

Viking is now another brand where they're going to lean on us knowing the American version though it's now a non-American production. I know this as I bought some mixing bowls from Sams and realized that nope....made in China, though purported as still "American". Could have just got mixing bowls from Walmart instead for cheaper w/out the Viking labeling!

Unfortunately, they were a gift for my son in Georgia.
