New MH player and 55 hours in, I love the game! The game just added new free content and more to come in May. I paid full price for the game and I think it's worth it!
As always with the series, fantastic game.
With this one, I'd warn new players that the first 20 hours or so (depending on how quick you are) is pretty "story heavy" for MH standards, and they're not very good about making it easy to play through it co-op; still very doable, just a bit awkward. My recommendation is to just play through the story solo so you learn the ropes and get the story segments done, and then going wild (lol) with multiplayer. The story itself is "acceptable". Not great by any means, but competent enough with good moments and a little bit of character growth. There's a "whiny child" type character that seems to rub people the wrong way - I personally enjoyed his journey of self discovery and growth through the story, but it seems like a lot of people just went "annoying child is annoying" lol
For anyone confused about how to play co-op with friends: Just go into a "link party" with your friends. This will make it so that when anyone posts a quest or starts a co-op enabled story segment, a quest invite will be sent to all within the link party.
The "environment link" enables members to wander out into the field and see the same things together, if you prefer that method of hunting.
I wish they had this deal for the Xbox version, I have 3 years of GamePass Ultimate stacked up...my PS+ subscription expired in February and I'm not planning on renewing.
Great game. If you're new to Monster Hunter and are willing to wait, Monster Hunter games typically drop in price fairly quickly. I'd expect $30 by Black Friday and $20 (or less) this time next year, when the inevitable expansion comes out.
