I did a quick test run and it looks like Spirit silver isn't worth it. Frontier Gold matches to silver in spirit.

Frontier is one of the worst airlines operating in the states - almost every flight I've flown with them has been delayed or canceled/rescheduled.
Perhaps if it this was for a free check-in bag it might be good, but they are beyond sticklers when it comes to measuring size of carry-on bag and personal items; the gate agents actually get a bonus for every person they reject and are able to coerce to purchase the oversize fee at the gate.
Given this "deal" is only 7ish months too makes it sketch too.
Frontier is the absolute farking worst. I went on a trip last spring and had two checked bags for my wife and I. we arrived over two hours before our flight. It took over an hour to get through the bag check line, during which frontier staff were pushing people to the front based on their flight time. I asked several times "hey I am on X flight, I am worried I will not be able to check my bag in time. Is this the right line? Should i be expedited?"
Got to the front, and low and behold they couldn't get me on (58 minutes until flight). Only option was to rebook to a city 4 hours away, and get a rental. They offered no refund at the counter/credit for the original flight, and added "counter assistance" booking fees for each of our tickets. I was livid, but had no choice as this was a vacation and I couldn't cancel the whole thing. The hilarious part is the counter agent took so damn long that it was now less than an hour to the second flight, but she was able to call someone and get the bags on. Wouldn't it have been nice to do that in the first place?
Walked by my original flight before boarding started. Bullshit.
Reached out to support after who offered 2x $50 vouchers...
Never again will i fly frontier. fark them to friday and back.
American express took care of me thankfully.
So if I'm traveling with my five year old I'm going to have to do this for both of us… which is fine, I guess. Frontier is the only airline with regular direct flights TPA-CLE and I've been refusing to fly them due to all the bullshit fees. Southwest has been great for us thanks to open seating. But if we can fly direct and NOT pay for carry ons, seat assignments, etc I'd rather do that.
Oddly Frontier and Spirit had an imbalance in the amount of direct flights out of TPA vs the major incumbents. Now sure why, but noticed this a while back. I think it was both of them that were the only direct options to Denver and Vegas. International? Forget about it.

Every time I try to do this, it returns me to the original page without actually doing anything... anyone else having this problem?

I will add my terrible experience with Frontier. I will never fly with them again, and hoping I can deter anyone from giving them business.
I arrived 1.5 hours early for the return flight home. We already had 2 bags prepaid and checked online. They had an agent walking before the counter line that stopped us, and told us to check our bags at the gate and sent us to security. Obviously security wouldn't let us through, because of the bag contents. Back at the counter with 50 to 55 minutes left before flight. They now said we were too late to check the bag. Offered nothing but a "too bad". We had to argue for a while before speaking with someone that said they could put us on a flight about 30 hours later and we would have to buy checked bags again. It was unacceptable.
We had to pay counter prices at another airline to get home. After we got home. We called Frontier, had a few back and forth conversations over a couple days. Final verdict: Nothing. Just a straight finger up the butt.
On another note. That's when I learned debit purchases are not protected like credit cards and charge backs are a lot harder. That's a learning lesson on me.
Any idea how soo I can get the status if i got their card which I have for a couple days now?

You will earn Instant Elite Gold Status ("Elite Gold") after your first purchase posts to your account, less credits, returns and adjustments ("Net Purchases") with a transaction date within the first 90 days of new Card Account opening. Elite Gold will be awarded 3-4 business days after the first Net Purchase posts. In order to maintain Elite Gold for 12 months from Card Account open date, you must also spend three thousand dollars ($3,000) in Net Purchases with transaction dates in the first 90 days of new Card Account opening. If you meet your first Net Purchases requirement but do not meet the $3,000 Net Purchases requirement, your Elite Gold will expire 90 days from new Card Account opening.

Tampa isn't a hub for any of the airlines and is relatively close to Orlando which gets all the international/tourist traffic.
Wild, I applied for their CC to get the gold status and it's still somehow pending (several months later). This seems like the easier path to get it and use alongside the go wild pass for at least the rest of this year. Thanks OP

My parents regularly fly Frontier MCO-CLE as well. Apparently sometimes United has TPA-CLE direct, but not every day. I feel like I used to be able to fly direct TPA-CLE on Southwest, which has been my primary airline for years, but I haven't seen a direct flight in a long time. Layovers with a five year old are rough, especially because we travel with a car seat.
Just created SW account and without any wait applied for frontier status upgrade. Got the email in 2 mins with the confirmation of gold status from frontier.
I created SW account yesterday and was rejected by Frontier. What's going on? The terms say SW account needed to be created before 4/16 (yesterday). When did you create your account again?

I'd guess that "before 4/16" would be 4/15 or sooner

I was also able to create a Southwest account and immediately apply for the frontier status upgrade. My guess is that the SW account was so fresh that Frontier's system couldn't determine the creation date.
