* Gato Robato is a 2-3 hour jaunt that has the fun premise of you being a cat controlling a mech suit.
* Grime I played for a bit but it was far too punishing for my current phase of life. I don't mind difficulty, but I do hate the timing aspect of the souls genre battles.
* Surprisingly I have never finished a Shantae game but I still recommend it. It's kind of a rayman-esque metroidvania.
* Islets is a gem. If you have played sheepo this is more of the same charming mid difficulty metroidvania. Maybe 8 hours total?
* Astalon and Biogun are in my wishlist so I cannot give much guidance here.
* Berserk Boy looks like a well designed mega man clone and I'm excited to give it a try but had not heard of it before this. Seems like a stretch calling this a metroidvania.
* Similarly, I had monster sanctuary on my wishlist but removed it because it seemed to have little to do with the genre.

Each monster has a skill tree to spend points as they level with 3 ultimate abilities to choose from which are not locked when you choose one - you can swap them as needed outside of combat. The number of monsters, skilltree diversity and skill synergies/party builds is pretty impressive and surprisingly deep.
