Does it hold up? I remember wanting to try this out when I saw the box in magazines and at a Toys R Us.

This does not hold up, IMO. Extremely clunky controls, and I didn't find the gameplay to be particularly enjoyable.
I didn't play this back in the day, so I don't have any nostalgia associated with it.

I haven't played this for twenty something years - I remember the difficulty being extremely high a few stages in (the beginning stages are fine). In particular I remember a brutally difficult ice stage boss which I managed to beat and I remember a stage that had a bunch of rolling boulders that was just too much to handle and I gave up.

If memory serves, this was one of the, if not THE, first games that allowed you to rewind time in the game. Pretty cool.

Not quite, unfortunately. It's pretty clunky and dated. Like osmantrex, I didn't play it when it was originally released. I did play some of the demo back then and remembered liking it but it's rough to play now.
