It's gonna push a lot of customers away, just especially the Slickdeals crowd who really doesn't like being abused by greedy corporations and generally would switch to another brand or build their own then play by those rules

Some advanced features will be locked from hard drives that aren't synology approved. That is not the same as synology branded.

the article you linked is lying by failing to quote their reference article correctly.
