It was $799 last December and I got about $80 cash back plus Sam's cashback.
The US market generator industry doesn't really understand the people want 240... It's not a significant cost for the inverter generators to be 240 instead of 120. If you look at the international market you'll see even nice small inverter generators are often available in 240v, so from a packaging standpoint it's common, just uncommon in the US.
Generators also fall under Sam's club membership guarantee policy (at least they haven't been excluded yet like large appliances, etc.). There's also typically a 240 offering in the $1,000 range at Costco, but I don't think it's quite as good.

I just looked at the predator 5000 watt inverter and it was only 120v even with the parallel.
Is all inverters genny's only 120v?

Correct but misleading. In other countries they are single phase 240, unlike us which are split phase 240 (120x2 on half cycle)
none inverter 240 ac's are significantly more common in the larger sizes, as they just pickup a separate field on the generator head.
harmonic distortion is the issue, depends how much you can handle
For a 5kw generator, it should have a 240v outlet so you can utilize that power.

That's because most of the world operates at 220-240V
That would only be 240V @20A maximum, which is too small of a circuit for typical 240V applications (Clothes dryer, electric ovens, A/C units, etc). So that would be a waste of money for this wattage output.
If you need that then you need to buy a larger generator. Not this generator's fault you want more.

In the future when I get rid of this honda generator and get a 240v I'll just toss the adapter and be good to go... or purchase a adapter to go from 50a to 30a if needed.
