I still have a balance remaining on my last Costco SW gift card. But honestly, with all their changes and downgrade in the customer experience, I'll be flying with other airlines that have better routes and times. I only stayed with SW because of the 2 free bags, and the fare change/cancellations not expiring. After May 28th, that all goes away! And so will I.

I still have a balance remaining on my last Costco SW gift card. But honestly, with all their changes and downgrade in the customer experience, I'll be flying with other airlines that have better routes and times. I only stayed with SW because of the 2 free bags, and the fare change/cancellations not expiring. After May 28th, that all goes away! And so will I.

So, the open seating policy ends? Anything else changing?
What if I am accompanying an elderly parent. I got a tip from one of those airport people that push people around in wheelchairs. He said I should request a need for wheelchair when buying my tickets and noting that I'm assisting the elderly parent, then request wheelchair at the airport to get to the gate. This also helps with earlier onboarding (a plus, but the goal. the goal is to make things easier for my parent). With open board, this meant we could pick out a seat earlier.

How will the changes for Southwest affect us now?

Kind of why I went with the southwest priority pass cc with 75 credit every year and 4 free upgrade seatings per a year . It includes the bags fly free .

Have you been away from Earth for a while? Which airlines come with a free bag if you go with Economy? None. They got rid of that like a decade ago it seems.

Wanna share my experience if it helps anyone.

I bought 2 $100 sw gift card couple of years ago using paypal offer. Saved those emails from paypal which had gift card links. Thought will use them later. Looks those email links did not work after few months or so. So I called paypal support they could send me one email again which i clicked promptly and saved gift card info. But they could not send 2nd email for some reasons which i dont remember.

Well I haven't used that one gift yet , hopefully it doesnot expire.
I dont have much SW flights from my location. Looking for few suggestions on how use it.

Ive learned from experience if you have a travel credit card with benefits use that instead of a gift card to buy a flight You lose all travel benefits if you use gift card.

Unless im saving a decent amount no real benefit to throwing away travel benefits for 10-30 off a flight.


I believe it was 2023 when southwest had major delays. Luggage got delayed for 28hrs. I was able to use my luggage delay benefits and get reimbursed for the clothing and hygienic products I had to buy

When I fly, instead of a round trip ticket, I purchase 2 one-way tickets. For each one way ticket, I use 3 forms of payment. Thus, I use 6 forms of payment.

Not buying this anymore. I've about $1200 in SW GC bought from Costco. I'm thinking of buying tickets and cancelling it to convert it to flight credit before 05/28 changes as the credits will stay in the account and won't expire. I'm assuming once I use the credit in future I'll still be allowed to keep those credit in fu if I cancel/change flights in future. What's the catch with burning my GC this way? TIA.
