Definitely a Saucony fan, most of their hikers are great. Unfortunately no wide, hard to find on sale.

This is not a hiking shoe by any means. It's a trail running shoe with a carbon plate designed for races. It's apparently not very stable and I've heard multiple reviewers say it's scary on descents.

I am the satisfied owner of many Saucony shoes and run trail races and I still skipped this model after reading reviews.

I did once see someone come in first at a parkrun on pavement with them which was kind of wild.

Poor grip, not good for technical terrain, and terrible durability (peeling outsole).

And as a precious commenter said, this is not a hiking shoe, it's a trail racing shoe with a carbon plate.

Mind sharing the other models you prefer, Endorphin? Looking to get a Saucony for light hiking/running.

The Peregrine is their main line trail shoe. Run and hiked hundreds of miles in multiple pairs. I also like the Xodus if you want more cushion.

What about these shoes for a lot of walking? Pavement and dirt roads?

I really like the Xodus Ultra line, but I think the 2's are pretty much sold out everywhere and the 3's are still full price so probably not a super slick deal to be had. Peregrines are less cushion and often available on sale. My big issue with them is that until the newest version released a couple of months ago they had this line running down the center of the sole that cracked fairly often on people.

I have the Endorphin Rift for races, but I wouldn't really recommend it that highly for more relaxed use as the upper rubs me a bit and it just generally prioritizes weight savings over comfort.

I thought it felt pretty good in a trial, but here's what some pros thought:

Why is this labeled a hiking shoe? Massive overkill if all you're using it for is that, though it will do great at hiking! 😛

I'm an experienced ultra runner, I've posted on Slickdeals about my thoughts on running shoes a lot in the past. Including this shoe on a past deal. I'm a top 10-20% finisher in a 100k, 50 miler and 100 miler all in 2024.

I purchased these shoes on sale about 3-4 months ago. I too was nervous about a few reviews out there saying they're roll prone, but because I've had such amazing experience with the Xodus and Peregrine line, I took a gamble.

These are right up there with the greatest trail running shoes I've ever run in. Full stop. I'd have a hard time choosing these over Speedgoat 5's or 6's. And what's more, I have an extremely weak left ankle. I ran two of those races last year in a brace. I've had zero issues with my ankle in these shoes and I'll be wearing them for my Zane Grey 50 miler in 1 week.

This is a fantastic price. I would highly recommend this shoe to anyone who wants to try it.

I have wide feet and these are pretty wide by default, way more space then Speeds or Kinvaras.

FWIW, ignore the reviews and give it a try. I think you'll love it if you love other Saucony's.

Pink is also on sale for about $70. I am strongly considering purchasing the pink and the shown blue and going the Asics Gel Kinsei 4 route and wearing mismatched shoes.

The Endorphin Rift is way better than the Edge but even that Saucony trail shoe is not without its problems.

Saucony is a struggling shoe brand. The parent company has been losing money for several years. The stock price is down over 80% since 2021. They have a lot of debt. Saucony's annual sales revenue has been stagnant for 3 years and the brand's market share has been on a downward trajectory for the past decade.

Saucony was wear testing an Endorphin Edge V2 last year but apparently that project was abandoned. The Endorphin Rift, arguably their most decent trail offering, was unceremoniously discontinued last fall. Saucony has basically pulled the plug on their Endorphin trail line. The Endorphin trail models just never gained any traction with consumers. The endeavor got off to a rocky start in 2021 with the Endorphin Trail which had to be pulled from the market due to a midsole chemistry defect.

The CEO quit and his replacement was fired in 2023. The current CEO is running the company a like private equity chop shop. He sold off units and cut licensing deals for some of the company's brands. The new CEO is hyper focused on containing costs and reducing debt. Innovation has been deprioritized. In fact, some of the brightest minds at Saucony have decamped for other footwear companies. Saucony shoes are mid to meh. It's a shame to see Saucony go down the toilet.
