The real issue is the Crucial drive is QLC and no-DRAM. And while the Samsung EVO also doesn't have DRAM, it is built of TLC memory modules. There always is going to be some argument over whether or not that's a real issue, especially if you can get a drive for significantly cheaper but the fact they're basically the same price it's really a no brainer to go with the EVO over the C310, $5 isn't enough to sway my needle.
That said $70 for a dramless 1TB drive doesn't seem like much of a deal at all, at least to me.

My kid's computer has a 256gb SSD and a second 1tb SSD that just failed. He uses the computer for gaming and some Photoshop and premiere pro.
1- Is this SSD speed (5000) plenty?
2- If I do get this SSD, is it better to set it up as a second storage and put all games in there?
3- Is it better to reinstall Windows and make this 1tb the main drive for OS, applications and/or games, and use the 256gb as secondary for "my documents" and such.

2. That's up to you, it would be the path of least resistance to replacing the failed 1TB drive. If we're talking about a generic 256GB NVME boot drive it's likely a lot slower than this drive though, and the chance of it having DRAM cache is practically null (although the EVO this thread is about doesn't have it either).
Personally I'd just spend a little more for a quality drive with DRAM cache and reinstall fresh windows to it… it'll be more effort this way but result in better performance overall.
3. Another option you may not have considered is to just buy this or a similar 1TB+ drive and install windows to it and remove the 256GB drive and put it in an external enclosure for an external SSD to take on the go. The market for high performance 256GB NVMEs is practically nonexistent, so it's probably just a basic NVME on the slowish side. It would be great for use as an external drive but I don't see the benefit in making your son's system needlessly complicated by putting the Documents folder on it, instead of just having a single high capacity drive.
