Just so people know, amtrak vacations is not affiliated with amtrak the train service. They just licensed the name and ripped off all the colors. They're really a travel agent that happens to use amtrak rail as the mode of transportation.

I always wanted to do a train trip, but i can't justify the length of time to get to the destination when i can drive. The prices are a bit pricey as well for my area.

I think for some, trains are a part of the "destination" - transportation is secondary to the journey the train provides.

But I've always been in the same boat, would love a train trip but found it often eats too much time that I could be spending where I want to go and it's a costly form of transit.

Absolutely agreed. If it takes similar time for the train to reach destination as car, I will be happy to take train and enjoy the views.

For something like this, the train is the destination for me. The hours spent watching different scenery going by is way, way better than driving in my opinion. I can get up, walk around, go grab some food or a drink, and just watch all the different types of landscapes the country has to offer without a care in the world. I'm not thinking about "is my car making an odd noise?". I'm not keeping an eye on the fuel gauge. I'm not worried about if the weather is going to be good for driving. No responsibilities. Just traveling for the sake of traveling.

God, I could really go for a good train trip right now.
