I have a 4-bay NAS with two 18tb EXOS in zfs mirror. To add two more of these, should I use RAIDZ expansion or just create a separate mirror?

thats up to you, switching to an array could give you slightly more total capacity (54TB capacity instead of 36TB) but you're sacrificing redundancy to a certain extent.

Personally, I would probably just add a second mirror unless desperately needing more than 18TB of additional storage capacity very soon. While keeping them mirrored is not the most efficient option, it will mean you don't have the same urgency if one of the drives ends up failing at some point. If it's an array with one parity drive then a single drive failure means that you need to replace the drive asap to start rebuilding the parity. Whereas if its mirrored disks a drive failure means you should replace the failed drive... but id be more comfortable waiting a week or two to get a good deal on the replacement drive in that scenario Smilie There's still risk in putting it off with the mirrored option but worst case scenario you still wont lose more than half the data. Hence my choice would be to go with the option that is less of a headache when a drive inevitably does fail.

I bought, not a bad price. Might as well grab before inventory is gone. And with tariffs, I foresee an increase across the board.

22TB for $250 in the same model line seems to be a better deal
