Today I was at my local Walmart and discovered they had their GOPRO Hero 10 and 11's on clearance. They were both priced at 100.00, but 10's were OOS.

App showed regular price, but when I asked the association to price check it, the discount showed up.

They also didn't show in the Walmart app as having any in-stock but asked to check and they found 1!

I bought this one at first came out for about $300. I thought I was going to use it a lot. I might have used it once. The problem is with the GoPro company is that they come out with a new one it seems like every 8 months. Which is pretty messed up because you buy one and then 8 months later they have better technology better lenses and all of that. For a hundred bucks yeah it's probably worth it. If you plan on actually using it.

Is it working for you? All I get is:

This product is not available to search right now

In-store inventory reporting varies by product and by retailer

I ignore that if/when it pops up. Maybe it's true. But perhaps it means unavailable at your selected stores. I am not a BS pro. I just know how to get the links from the URL of the product page.

Regardless....scroll down to see that you can click to show your 2 selected stores' availability. If not available there, change your stores in your settings. Go back and look again. You must uncheck your stores in order to check on different ones (if you want to try others) BS really sucks now as they limit you this way for checking.

I own one of these from like 10 years ago and I've probably used it a total of 5 times. It still works great.

Just to post one positive gopro note -- I used to keep a gopro in storage and never touch it. Then at some point I got a little carbon fiber selfie stick, and also had kids, and now I use my gopros on every family trip. It's freeing to bring a tiny durable camera around on a stick rather than all my larger camera gear.

The cloud features are also nice. $49/yr gets the lower tier of the gopro subscription service, which they call "Premium", and that comes with lower cost accessories as well as full-res cloud uploading and storage of all footage, directly uploaded from the camera. The camera can be set to upload when plugged in to charge, and to wipe the card automatically after uploading. I periodically sync all the footage back to my computer using this script [github.com]. After uploading footage, their cloud service also sends me terrible 2-3 minute automated edits of the footage that are still amusing to look at.

So it's fun to chase the kids around with the little camera, or to get creative with camera position using the stick, or to hand the thing over to the kids and let them run with it, and then to just plug it in when we get home to charge and sync.

And the experimental features they freely make available in the optional 'Labs' firmware are great, for those who mess with such things. I'm using it to shoot 10-bit h265 in a log colorspace at 180mbps these days.

This is all moot as all I'm seeing on brickseek is "This product is not available to search right now". I just have been enjoying the camera lately.

It's a hard lesson to learn in life, but you'll never find satisfaction chasing incremental upgrades.

There will ALWAYS be something "better" just around the corner. And if you beat yourself up everytime something new shows up, then you'll be battered and bruised your entire life.

Simply ask yourself -- is this something I can actually use? Does it meet my needs? If so, get it at the best price/value you can get -- and only upgrade when you have a clearly articulated, justified reason to do so.

If possible, fix and repair. Learn to do without. Be comfortable with buying used. Sell your old gear instead of throwing it out.

---------

It sounds like the problem isn't the company releasing a new product every 8 months, but you simply not needing or using the products you buy.

I bought a 10 a few years ago, and the battery life is atrocious unless you get the upgraded batteries. The normal GoPro official batteries are terrible. I used mine twice and I don't even want to bring it on vacation any more. It's my biggest waste of money on a gadget ever.

Used GoPros are worth a lot, 7 Blacks are going for $120 on EBay. I'm going to sell mine since I got an Action Pro 5, which is much better especially for snorkeling where the 7 was really jerky. Battery life is like 3x the GoPro too.

Is this still a thing now? I don't see anyone using this anymore when I travel. They were everywhere like 10 years ago.

Just a note, if you want to make good video with these and you are doing a specific activity, snorkeling for example, search youtube for "gopro snorkeling settings" I just stumbled upon that a while back and it really helped me a lot to shoot better video
