Follow up question, do you compare the cost of everything by how long you can stay in a motel six?

The main benefit of the R8 is the Bluetooth capability that allows you to pair with your phone and connect to highway radar app (on Android)

I haven't used it either (don't have an R8 or R4) but from what I'm reading it is very good. Allows you to have custom filtering to quiet the detector, you can update settings through the app and the app has police airplane tracking if enforcement in your area uses them. Also it is a lot more customizable than Waze.

I use "R8 companion" and yes- its way different than wayze. Companion and hwy radar integrate the phone on many levels and being able to set notches for band pickups is a game changer!!!!
I've always wondered if a detector picking up 100% known police could give some directional/locational reporting from various users to indicate likely speed trap locations without manual reports.. but that may just be too damn complex. Maybe triangulation from multiple users could allow it? ha
I am curious, what state is it?

Look at highway radar app. It gives you heat maps on the roads where police sit. Communicates with the community to alert you too.
