I have similar smokeless grills.

1. It's smoke less not smoke free

2. The electric grill need sufficient heat up time. And it's mostly for Korean bbq stuff like thin cuts of meat, brisket , pork belly. Please don't use it for 2" rib eye.

3. The fan under the grill will pull the smoke, and water tray is there to capture some smoke, but without lid, smoke goes where it wants to go.

4. Pre heating is important

5. Good for thin meats, veggies, otherwise George Forman will be better.

These products are Asian design.. and Asians eat thin meats ( Japanese yakiniku, Korea bbq). These can't handle temp drop from thick steaks, drum sticks
