This will work perfectly for that.
1. Yes. 2. No.

The license is likely baked into the motherboard, assuming it's legit to start with.

However, look up massgravel.
The N100 is able to handle transcoding more than 2 1080P streams without much trouble.

But if you're talking locally, you don't even need transcoding these days.

I was able to direct stream 4K to 4 different devices on a Raspberry Pi 4B.

The only limitations at that point are storage speed and bandwidth.

Would this work well for Home Assistant? Thinking about upgrading from VBox run on an old Mac mini which is a very chaotic setup. Clearly anything is an upgrade but is it the *right* upgrade?

Normally, I'd recommend a Raspberry Pi over this for the power consumption, but seeing as the price of the Pi shot up to almost the cost of this, they aren't really the budget friendly option anymore.

Depending on how elaborate your HA setup is, you might be able to get away with an Orange Pi Zero for around $20.

If you do end up going with an N100 system, I highly recommend installing Proxmox and running HA in a VM. That way, you can get a lot more out of the system than just running HA on bare metal.

Never used a mini-pc before. I have two questions,
1. Is it possible to install Linux (Mint/Ubuntu) on this?
2. Is it possible to transfer the Win license since I am planning on running Linux on this?

If you're starting from scratch, you'd probably be better off with a NAS board that has multiple SATA ports onboard.

Otherwise, yes.

You can even drop the WiFi adapter and add a Coral card for object detection.

Look into a used Dell Wyse 5070 off eBay. You will also need a SATA SSD, but I got both for 60 bucks total and HA works perfectly.

What Coral Card are you talking about? I'm thinking Cameras connect to a switch, the switch to Mini PC. Thinking to save camera recording in the miniPC. I need to use a PC software.

The space in this is limited for adding storage. You don't want everything recording to SSD, either.

This is the card I'm talking about. https://coral.ai/products/pcie-accelerator/

However, it sounds like you're just starting out, so this would be something to consider later on.

And what do you mean you need to use PC software?

That would be a major downgrade to this.

What would the point be? To save $40?

They'll make that up in their electricity bill by going with the N100 over a Pentium.

I have this machine as a dev box for coding and IaC (Infrastructure as Code) using Terraform. I have not had an issue coding and watching training videos or YouTube. No slowness noticed. Being that it is an N100 this takes a while to get going when booting up.

N100 power usage is so low I would just leave it on 24/7.
