You're comparing apples and oranges. The sign up bonus on the Disney Visa is not limited to Disney spending. Anyone can sign up for that card at any time and use it for anything to get the bonus. If you're into the credit card churning game, it's not that great of a card to burn a 5/24 slot on, since it's terrible for everyday spending and the sign up bonus is meh. However, it's a decent card to have when you're going to the parks for the 10% discount at stores and some (definitely not most) restaurants, as well as the occasional cardholder-exclusive discounts for hotels, but for the bulk of your trip spending, the gift cards are usually the way to go. You can use them for tickets, hotel, lightning lanes, and just about anything else on property.

This works for restaurants, but the gift cards work for park tickets as well which the Disney CC does not give a discount for.

Good deal especially combining it with Discover if it counts for a warehouse store. If you buy the maximum that's $800 in gift cards for $720 plus $36 cash back. Literally $116 of free money if you plan on going to Disney anyway.

Plus if you are staying at a Disney resort you can leave a credit card at the start then anytime 24 hours before your checkout you can go to the front desk and pay down your balance using the gift cards.

Also disneygiftcards.com, which is actually run by Disney, will let you register your cards and move balances between them. So what we do is register all the card, consolidate the money between two of them, toss the old ones that now have $0 balance, and then me and my wife each carry one. This way if we forget one in the room or lose it we can just login and transfer the balance to the other one. Although once you get used to just paying with your magic band you'll usually not take then out at all.

I was coming here to joke that your savings might be enough for a bag and a seat, but here we are....

I will miss Old Southwest, one of the most reliable companies in US history.

I know people go crazy over these Disney GCs to use at the parks but it's a better ROI (assuming you have good credit) to just get the Disney Visa. Spend $1k and get $400 back and a lot of the restaurants in the parks offer 10% off if you use the card.
A sign up bonus is a one time thing and limited. I save more then $400 on Disney gift cards every year anyways

Disney World was a once and done for us so the visa option was quick and easy. It's good to know the GCs work for booking tickets and rooms. If we do decide to go again I'll definitely keep the GCs in mind.

I would bet that in 18-36 months they replace their CEO and pull a SBUX, rolling back some/all of these changes that completely tank their brand once they fail to see the $$ returns they expect… I mean, realize that they LUV their customers…

As a potential investor again (and temporary boycotter), this is 100% my hope.

Elliott Capital needs to learn a hard lesson about activism backfiring in well-loved companies.

Is there a limit on the number of gift cards I can use to book a Disney package? For example, can if I buy 3k worth of cards using my other family members' sams cards and apply all on one package?
You can actually call them to apply gift cards to any reservations that are booked through Disney be it resorts, park tickets, or resort/park packages. It's an automated system that works 90% of the time. You can also consolidate the gift cards onto one card up to $1k per card through disneygiftcard.com. This will make it easier to apply the gift cards where you have to only enter 3 gift cards instead of 15 cards to any reservation you have. You can also reload a gift card if you have a physical one you want to use on property. I noticed that some of the physical cards have switched to cardboard, so I kept a plastic one to reload and use in the parks.

Yes go to Disneygiftcards.com to combine your cards. Last year I bought $8,000 in gift cards to pay for a cruise

Glad Southwest is getting rid of included bags, I don't think carry-on passengers should subsidize checked bags.
That is only the outcome if carryon passengers get to pay less or everyone pays less for the base ticket, which I don't think is happening here. I think it's just a benefit going away.
