I'm usually a 32" waist (M) but had to size up in these pants to a large because the elastic is so aggressively clinching. I haven't experienced ripping at all. Great pants, really.

I've owned a few pairs of these pants over the last 5 or so years and they are some of the more rugged, comfortable, and high quality pants I have. Unless they recently changed the material, fit, or craftsmanship, They should last a while. I've had no such issues with mine, but I suppose it could depend upon the wearer's build and what they're doing while wearing these.

Unfortunately, their quality is not the same as 5-6 years ago after they took big investment from SoftBank and scaled up rapidly. There were great for climbing and very rugged but the new ones rip very easily.

Happy with my Prana, this is a wee bit too steep for me given the diversity of reviews.

I have many pairs of these. Like the fit and comfort, but durable they are not. I used to wear these exclusively at the climbing gym until I discovered my harness rubs holes into the cargo zip pocket area. I'll still wear them for other purposes though.
