Non serrated steak knives are game changers
I had no idea that steak knife nerds existed. Or that people even gave that much thought to steak knives outside of "will it cut my steak?" "does it look nice?" and "is it durable?"

Bunch of complaints in this thread but no substitutes.. What's our alternative if serrated knives are no good? Also isn't it kinda junky to not have whole set match with rest of the silverware? You got engraved or curved or some other fancy silverware set and totally mismatched steak knife? I get that this is OK at a restaurant where they will usually bring a wood handled stake knife, but at home?

Serrated knives are going to be better for people that like to cut their steaks on ceramic plates. I have plain edged steak knives and the edges get wrecked by people who don't realize how little effort you need to cut something with a sharp knife.

I have these. They are just OK. You're paying for the box and the brand/logo. I would not necessarily buy them again. I prefer my Wusthoff set, but that is in a different price range.

Honestly don't know anyone that matches their steak knives to their silverware. But I prefer a traditional knife look with a "wood" handle, not this single piece of metal look.

Also, IMHO almost any straight edge steak knife is better than serrated just because you can sharpen it easily and basically keep it forever, where as with a serrated knife, most folks won't be able to sharpen it and it gets trashed once it is dull.

For less than $40 with the 10% new user promo code, these will be a great replacement to our 10 year old walmart steak knives. Maybe when a smooth edge steak knife deal comes around then I can upgrade and be like all these other steak knife experts tripping over each other in this thread.

Some are. Just depends but you'll mainly see the difference in price. Another point into consideration is stamped vs forged. But overall, you'll notice the ones made in Germany are forged and much higher in cost.

Same could be said with other brands too.
