M1 Pro Screen is still better and is actively cooled, better GPU, 512GB SSD.

While the M4 is way better in single core benchmarks while a MBA is not actively cooled and has 256GB SSD.

I agree though if I were buying today, I'd buy probably pay more for the new laptop and the better CPU of the M4 MBA.

The screen is horrible on MBA. 60hz should only be anything less than $500

Doesn't really seem to be a great deal. Not only is it 3 generations old, but it's a refurb with a potentially not great battery

Active cooling doesn't really close the 3 generation gap, the M4 MBA is significantly faster in everything but sustained multithreaded loads and graphics, where it is close (either slightly faster or slightly slower depending on the specific task).

Great laptop but it's 3 generation old and it's used. I wouldn't pay more than $600 for a used laptop. It's not always about pure performance. There's longevity of the device in age, battery life and software support. I know not everyone can get military discount but the M4 13" Air is only $749. Micro center was $849 but you can find open box for $809. I would always recommend a newer computer than an older one because of longevity.

I've had mine for almost 3 years but of course I bought it new. It's been great. I would not change it for a MBA M4.

I didn't use it much for the first year I had it but after that I used it a LOT (all day everyday) and I'm at 87% battery capacity.

M1 Pro is honestly still is overkill for 99% of tasks normal people do everyday. It was such a massive leap from Intel that it still covers most pro use easily as well. Video editing/photo editing isn't going to see much if any improvement. Unless you make money by saving time when you're compiling complex coding projects, the difference between M1 Pro and M4 is very neglibile. I'd rather have the better screen!

So for $800 if the battery percentage is somewhere around 85% and it's in good shape, you have no room to go wrong here. It's not a screamer of a deal but I'd personally buy it over a M4 MBA. I'm never going back to something below a 120hz MiniLED. As soon as OLED comes out is when I upgrade next.
