Speakers were $20-$30 lower previously, but this looks like the best price at present. Walnut only.

Can these be used as a stereo pair of bookshelfs in a 2.0/2.1 setup?

These generally are used as side or surround speakers. They can be wall mounted and while they should be usable in a 2.0 or 2.1 setup, that's not what they're designed for ideally.

As two-channel speakers, they would be very hard to place to avoid multi-wall reflection.

I have sidewall seating because I love lying down on the couch to watch, however, I also have backwall seating. These are ideal for such situations because it provides surround sound at 2 different locations/depths in the room. There are of course atmos purists who prefer single point surrounds, but these are a great compromise if real life gets in the way of ideal seating position.

I have both, the rp-600 are much better over all if you have the space and the proper angles. I find the 502 a good speaker as a side surround but it should be $299.... It's fine and better then most but for pure in your face the 600m's are just real good.... I use the 600's for my main rear surrounds and the 502's for my rear sides and that works real nice as far as over all imaging w/ atmos /dts:X...
