Went to Target (Brockton MA) to look for the 50% off and was pleasantly surprised to see the 3month 5Gb/mo was further discounted.
Some replies of that post also mentioned seeing 70% off in the last couple days. Seems to happen widely.

All other Mint plans still showing 50% off and had few or none packets left, but the 5Gb one has 10+ packets. See photo. (Also there are some other pre-paid SIM cards, on discounts but I did not see pre-paid packages).

I bought 3 packets and hope I will be able to use them in the future (activation by Aug 2027). I am curious why these are heavily discounted and continue to be discounted, suggesting that they were having trouble selling them... I find Mint service pretty decent and little hiccups. I am surprised that it is not attracting enough new customers and having to go with deeper discount to 70% off (50% off was common).

Wonder if anyone has any insights? Hopefully their business last long enough for those I bought.

The 5GB plan is probably their least popular one. The trend nowadays is providing more data for less money....however if you only use limited data then these plans are still perfect for you. The target ones are supposed to work like the best buy ones and I've personally activated one a year later. They have no way of tracking when you purchased it.

There were multiple 5GB packs in the target location I went to but I was able to find a 15GB plan 3 month sim kit for about $19.. very nice, I'll probably switch back to infimobile if they still have those really cheap multi month plans in about 3 months.

I think almost all of then have activate in 45 days. The last one I activated a few days ago was bought December last year with an activate by 12/12/2025 written in the sim card inside. So about ~4 months before I activated the sim I bought Dec 2024 and it still worked.

They didn't scan the barcode on the SIM so I was curious how they even know when you buy it.

Are you talking about the sim card expiration date? If the expiration date on the sim card is not within 45 days then you can ignore the 45 day rule. The 45 day rule only applies when you purchase directly fom mint. Many users including myself have activated WELL AFTER 45 days (i did 6+ months) after purchasing 3rd party (not via mint.com).

Can you buy multiple and stack them? So in essence paying $56 for the year?

I did these Mint promotions A LOT for my two kids when they were Pre-Teens. Their friends would ask them why they have 4+ different/updated phone numbers LOL!

Now in college, I just do the $10 30Gb Hotspot for them.

Yes, you have that option when you activate the sim.

What is the purpose of the bar code on the SIM card itself that is exposed through the cutout on the back? Any way to tell if the cashier scanned that one or the bar code on the sticker? I went to the store to pick up a couple of cards (got the 5 GB for $14 and 15 GB for $18), and I didn't think to be attentive to how they scanned it.
