Damn, wish this wasn't the F variant. Looking for a good 12500 or 12600 non-f for a Plex server build to utilize the iGPU.

If anyone has a lead on a good deal for either processor, let me know.

The i5-14400F is only $8 more. Not sure if that's a better buy.

I've been looking for a good deal on a K processor too, anything from 12600/12700k to a 14600/14700k.

With the exception of the "flash" sale Amazon had on the 14700k at 1am couple weeks back (which I think was really a matching price algorithm mistake), the best price I have seen for a K (no F) is $189.99 for the 14600k at Microcenter. Amazon just lowered the price of their 14600k to $200. 14700k is $300 at MC, have not seen another vendor match yet.

Intel's older processors have apparently been selling really well lately, due to price drops and tariff fears. I am trying to hold out for one more drop, but may pick up the 14600k if comes back in stock at my MC.

Not so sure about this the 14 series utilizes DDR5 a lot better then the 12 series. However 12600KF is a great CPU I used it a long time before I upgraded to 14700. I don't think you can go wrong with either of the CPU's for the price.

The 14 should be faster but they limited the power on many of them to keep the heat down and as such limited the max frequency.

If you up the power usage it should be faster overall.

Absolutely. I use this exact CPU, 12600kf, right now. I recycled my old Arctic Freezer 34 eSports Duo for it (single tower air cooler, 2x 120mm), keeps it under 70c under load. Any good single tower cooler will work, almost any of the ID Cooling or Thermalright coolers for example.

I highly recommend the 12100 for a Plex server. It can hardware encode almost everything relevant. It's only missing AV1. Which, it can hardware decode.

I was looking for the 500 or 600 as they have the UHD 770 which can do more 4k H265 to H265 transcodes than the UHD 730 in the 12100. This is a new plex feature vs the regular H264 transcode.

I got a 12600k from microcenter for $139 a few weeks ago.
It might be worth just checking their inventory every now and then to see.
