I've had 3 Best Buy brand Fire TVs. One went bad after 2 years, the other two are still going strong (3 plus years old). They are great for the price (when on sale), but I would recommend getting the $59.99 5 year extra coverage. Would give peace of mind for just a small amount of money

$60 is not a small amount of money comparing to $290. That's more than 20%.
Hopefully the quality of Insignia TVs has improved since I last bought one (5-6 yrs ago, so a lot may have changed). The colors were way way off and no amount of tuning (limited settings) could get rid of the pinkish-purple hue it gave everything. I found it so distracting I returned it within a week. There wasn't a price point where I would've kept it.

Yep just roll the dice at $289 IMHO. Waste of an extra $60. If it does fail out of regular warranty, chances are high you will never bother with a less then $300 tv and get something better quality anyway. (Which you can use that $60 towards...)

Any thoughts on this as a TV for an outside covered patio?
If you live in an area with high levels of humidity I don't think I would. If you live in a place with relatively low humidity it would probably be fine though I'd still probably get a cover for it to keep on it any time you aren't watching.
