My favorite laptop ever. Keyboard, battery life, screen are terrific. Just make sure your software works on ARM processor. Games don't always do so as one example.

Would this be good for a high school student to last the next few years? Does this have modern components?
(I'm not really a computer user)

You'll have to check ARM compatibility.

As long as you don't need a ton of local storage, this is a great device. You might also consider HP OmniBook X which are regularly on-sale with X-Elite processors for a bit less money. We have both in our household and although the Surface is nicer, Omnibook is a relatively close second.

Can't even run Fortnite. SnapX cpu compatibility is poor for gaming. Need an Intel/AMD laptop.

  1. Yes, but Check with the high school what apps they use across all classes, then check SnapX cpu/Windows for ARM compatibility!
  2. This is because some apps simply do not run in SnapX cpus, so if it doesn't, you're stuck.
  3. Now, for the basics - Microsoft Office (word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook), ms teams, ms edge browser - if that's all school uses, then you'll be fine. Else, pass and buy an Intel/AMD laptop.

Operating System differences aside, this or the MacBook Air (2025)?

I don't think people looking at this deal are going to buy it for their toddler.

Unless you are running some pretty unique software, or playing games, I don't think you'll have any problems. I have a Surface Pro 11 and have yet to run into anything that wouldn't run.

This feels much snippier than the m4 MacBook. But it does have bugs such as when turning on the screen to unlock, the screen always flash. Also the driver occasionally restart/reload when plugging in/out for charging frequently.

All these snapdragon laptops have the driver issue that will occasionally flash black and reload. I have owned more than 20. It's just some bug. Otherwise, the 120hz screen itself beats MBA by a large margin

My mom only use the laptop for regular use (non-gaming). Like MS Word, Excel, web browser. Is 16GB RAM enough?

The key thing is, who refurbished it?

If it is Microsoft it's worth it. If not, you can buy brand new from Microcenter for a regular $699 price for a while from December to March so I guess better to wait.
