These are excellent headphones. They compare very favorable to Sennheiser 599. Very lightweight, very low clamping force fit well on big heads.
These are great sounding headphones. They lack low end punch but more than make up for that in detail and soundstage.
Been using thiese for a while and they are perfect (paired with a vmoda mic) for my use case - big head, want to still hear outside world, avoid headaches due to clamping force, and keeping ears cool

I agree. I would add that they're very comfortable, but also they're not too stable; I found that they fell off my head quite easily. They're good for sedentary activities as long as you're not moving in your seat too often (eg reaching down to open desk drawers).
One of the earcups snapped off when I slept in them one too many times, but people who aren't idiots won't need to worry about that as much.

People who haven't tried a good open-back phone should try this one as their entry-way if they are interested.

You get less isolation of course, but you get much better soundstage as long as your environment is quiet versus traditional closed headphones.

How does this compare to Philips Fidelio X2HR

I have them both - the X2HR's are more boomy (tons of bass) and the ear cups are much more plush but also tight and cumbersome, especially with glasses. As others have said here, the SHP9500 feel lighter and keep your ears cooler. They feel cheaper but I could wear them longer. The sound is more "detailed" on the SHP9500, but I could see some people arguing that it's also more thin and "tinny".

It's not exactly apples and oranges, but I feel it's hard to compare them because they sound so different and choosing which one sounds "better" depends on whatever song you're listening to at the time. Definitely do the X2HR's if you're going to use them for movies though - I feel like that was the only category where one clearly outshined the other.

The Philips X2 is better overall in nearly every way except possibly detail, which may be a tossup.
The X2 has a lot more bass, though I wouldn't say it's unbalanced. It's just the 9500 just doesn't have a lot of bass quantity. The X2 has significantly better fit. I thought the 9500 was too loose on the head. The X2 is much more forgiving on weaker, unamplified sources as well.

Echoing what others said, I have a fat head and most headphones are not comfortable for me. After a lot of research I settled on these and have been using them for years.
Another plus is the very open design and the material of the earpads make head-sweat a non-issue.

These paired with the Vmoda Boom Pro make for a very nice gaming headset that can easily be driven by either an Xbox or PlayStation controller.

The 9600 found on the same link is a few bucks cheaper. Any thoughts on that one?

lol, bought these 10 days ago from Amazon. Like them so far. I have a big head and they are plenty big enough for me. No comfort issues wearing them 4-6 hours per day. Sound is good so far, although I hear it really gets richer after 300+ hours.

How does having a cable give you freedom of movement though? 1.5m is pretty short too.
