You make it sound like the sidekick is relatively unknown. That's Mark Dacascos who use to host the American Iron Chef TV show, and was the main villain in John Wick 3.
This movie is one of my favorites for its sheer insanity. It is a period French piece, bodice ripper, fish out of water, monster, and martial arts movie that is just as goofy and fun as that sounds.
Own it in HDX, willing to drop $5 for the 4k upgrade.

Wish there was a better way to know what movies would be upgraded so I could wait until they are and only buy once.

Was one of my favorite movies at the time it came out. Like the cinematography.

You're buying the 4K version, not the HDX

I already have the HDX version and it costs $5 to upgrade to 4K, which is the same as buying the 4K version of you don't own the movie already. 4K upgrade should be free or at least reflective of the face that you already owned the HDX version.

This reminded me that I saw this movie in the theater with some college friends and there is one scene where one of the main characters climbs and stands up and flips his hair over his shoulder and in the dead quiet of the theater some guy sings out "He's got the urge" (like in the Tresemme commercials that were popular at that time) and the entire theater erupted in laughter. It was epic!

And co-star of the excellent "Drive" from 1997, a kung-fu odd couple road movie.

This movie is a fun ride. It's French so, in the words of Jeremy Clarkson, "It doesn't feel like it was grown in the same soil." The heroes regularly visit brothels, where they are provided mystical advice which moves the plot along. The Native American sidekick knows Asian martial arts - and is played by an American of Filipino descent. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Don't forget about Only the Strong. He was the star.

I'm not trying to reduce Dacascos' fame at all. I'm trying to highlight how weird the whole character was, from the casting decision to the inclusion of martial arts for someone who was supposed to be Iroquois. Fun fact: The Iroquois did not know Asian martial arts! I guess my big take-away was that not much of the specifics of the French role in the American revolution must have been taught in France (which featured many alliances with the natives), and as such ideas about native Americans are much more malleable to them than us. Asian Martial Arts? Sure! Why not.

I absolutely love this film. It's ridiculous in every way, but done masterfully, and then there's Monica Bellucci. The cinematography is top tier, the story is wild and fun, Monica Bellucci, the acting is very good, the action is fantastic and well choreographed, Monica Bellucci, and it's just a perfect storm of good cinema. And Vincent Cassel villain goodness, along with Monica Bellucci. I've argued that if this was an American film, it would have been as big as gladiator or the matrix.

Side note, Emilie Dequenne, who played Marianne (the redhead) recently passed.
