I had one of the models before this and you do need a boundary wire. If the wire isn't connected to the base it won't run.

You install the wire 10in from the edge I think. The better job you do the closer it cuts to the edge. Pretty much pull the wire then hammer a stake and repeat. You can also get a camera that does help it avoid obstacles.

I have since moved onto a gps robot mower, because it became a little too inconsistent and the bouncing made it miss spots. However for this price it's not too bad to randomly have to clean up a few spots.

It does go back to the base and recharge automatically by following the wire around the edge.
The shit hits the fan
That would work, but it works best with an intelligent wire

Bought mine open box last year, well the one with the slightly larger battery (WR155) and set it up to do my back yard. I'm very happy with it. It takes a bit of tinkering and adjustment with the wire to get it working well and not stuck on things, but once it's working well it cuts great.

Good deal if you are looking for a perimeter wire version but I am looking for one without a boundary wire.

I have about an acre.

You can setup zones for this. 1/4 acre per zone. At that point you'd want to upgrade to solid core wire to prevent signal degradation. Underground dog fence 18 or 16 gauge wire basically.

What kind of boundary wires would be needed for the mower? how difficult is it to install such wires?
