You're preferences aren't everyone's. There's gonna be some low tech user on here that read your nonsense and believe it, or at least ask why and realize (hopefully) that you've just wasted their time.

I'll take a slim laptop over fullsize any day, because I travel a lot and already have a desktop at home.

Serious question as I appreciate you and the many deals you post. Are there any in the price range, sub-$500, that are currently available that you'd recommend over this? Maybe even under $600. I posted this not only because I thought it was slick, but to get feedback as we're purchasing a laptop for my son who is entering college. TIA

We've had plenty of better deals for this price or a bit more previously, instead of this one with 5 generations old processor. No idea why it's even being thumbed up.

Almost a certainty that no one buying a ~$400 laptop has any inclination towards upgrading RAM. At these prices, people treat them as disposable, not saying they should, just saying they do.

Also looking in this price range. Had found an open box Lenovo Yoga at Best Buy with similar specs to this but was just at the start of my search for like $250 and didn't pull the trigger. Didn't realize how good of a deal it was and it was gone 4 hours later.

Usual forks in the road: Touch screen, do you want a number pad (this pushes normally to 15"+ screen size), backlit keyboard (I am not sure why this is important but seems to be), hard drive size, upgradeable RAM, USB-C ports/charger.

I don't know if this is correct, but I plug the processor into CPU benchmark to see how much relative computing power it has. In my mind this gives a little confidence of "future proofing", but I am sure others on here know better. This processor has a score of 18,266 which is better than almost all laptops in this price range by a wide margin. Most i3,5,7 and ryzen3,5,7 are in the 8000-13000 score range.

Last thing, personal preference, but I stay as far away from HP brand as possible. I've been sucked into the value trap in the past and have had two different machines not make it past 2 years.

"5 generations old processor"? How did you figure that out? Scratchhead
I don't closely follow laptop deals, but this is a great value at $419.

For win laptops, I noticed the companies produced laptops with soldered RAM only during that period. Most recent laptops come with non-soldered RAM.

I am wondering if 15.6 inch laptop is too big for carrying around college. 14" might be better from portability perspective
