So..I've never even cared for turn-based games or long rpg games other than the third person shooter types, but I'm hooked on this game.
Firstly, visuals and art AND the music scores. Then there's the build up, and story. Then comes the exploration of all the scene scapes, combat, enemy variation, and boss battles. Combat system enstills just the right amount of frustration and will to persevere. Keep trying to win a boss battle, or reskill, reperk, or reevaluate your starting line up to take on those foes.
This game is a spring 2025 must play. Only reason I have any chance to play it is the late night shift holding newborn asleep while on paternity leave but I'm so glad for its release timing... the baby but also the game 😅

I hope other devs learn from this game and start listening to their customers. This and the Lords of the Fallen update give me hope for gaming.

As for my opinion, this game is one of my favorites in a long time. Great story, characters, graphics, gameplay, and music. Voice acting is by A+ cast who absolutely nailed it. Music best I've heard in a game for a long time. I grew up playing games like Final Fantasy 8, Paper Mario, Mario RPG, and other turn based greats. This brought me back to the fun I had as a child with those games. Turned based isn't for everyone, but man here's hoping this game can get more developers on board with making that genre.
Walk 3 feet? There are no random encounters. If you want to avoid fights even in areas with narrow gaps you can pull them to you and run around them. You can use that to grab items as well. I have used it a bunch on maps early that showed as Red because I couldn't likely defeat the enemies in the area at my current level.
Battles are quick and in fact if you learn the mechanics of the game I am not sure a game has ever let you get so OP using the base mechanics before. Once you get the ability to break the 9999 mark you can put up insane amounts of damage.

Game is probably 8/10 if you include its flaws. If you give it a pass on the flaws, its 10/10. Acting/cinematics are awesome. Story is one of the best you'll find. I am near the end btw.
