Playing it on game pass, Xbox and PC, with cloud save can pick up progress on either platform, though have been playing in performance mode on xbox and I don't feel as if I'm losing anything compared to PC.
So..I've never even cared for turn-based games or long rpg games other than the third person shooter types, but I'm hooked on this game.

Firstly, visuals and art AND the music scores. Then there's the build up, and story. Then comes the exploration of all the scene scapes, combat, enemy variation, and boss battles. Combat system enstills just the right amount of frustration and will to persevere. Keep trying to win a boss battle, or reskill, reperk, or reevaluate your starting line up to take on those foes.

This game is a spring 2025 must play. Only reason I have any chance to play it is the late night shift holding newborn asleep while on paternity leave but I'm so glad for its release timing... the baby but also the game 😅

I assume this is when you are trying to find that hidden village. That was a bit frustrating, but don't recall that happening again to that extent so don't through that part and think you will be good.

I hope other devs learn from this game and start listening to their customers. This and the Lords of the Fallen update give me hope for gaming.

just happened in the forgotten battlefield. I really like the game, but when i go exploring I can never find my way back. A few times I even got back to the beginning of the level because much of the levels different areas look identical to the previous area.

Been playing this... my first JRPG because I refuse to play any where the weapons are larger & heavier than the wielder - which is pretty much all of them. So far I really like it. There are definitely some frustrating things about it, that might just have to do with this genre of game, like when you walk up to one antagonist and then when it comes to the battle, there are 3 all of the sudden. However the music is great, beautiful world, the story intriguing, and the turn-based mechanics require some actual thought. I definitely plan to finish it but man, would I have liked to be able to explore the world fully from the 1st person POV.

Many games I want to buy right now, just where to find the time. Clair, BG3, Schedule 1 looks fun, Maybe the new doom, and remade oblivion which somehow I never played.
Added to the backlog.

While I'd love Expedition to win Game of The Year. The way the politics in gaming works, I'd be surprised if Mario Kart World doesn't get it.

Game of the year? LMAO. Not a chance. I couldn't complete more than 6 hours. Turn-based combat is slow, boring, and not for everyone. Sorry, I don't have 2-3 business days to complete one lame battle.... just to walk three feet and have to do it again. And the musical score can only be described as PAINFUL after an hour. It sounds like you're at a fine dining restaurant with an annoying pianist who won't STFU. Graphics? You mean, stiff animations and lifeless facial expressions and the worst hair in any game in the last decade. Hard pass on this one. I cant wait to stop hearing about this game, with its paid-for reviews and fake hype.
I'm not going to insult you just because you dislike the game, everyone has their own interests and opinions, but absolutely can't disagree more about the paid-for reviews. Small AA/indie like team, not some huge developer with money to throw around like EA or activision. But I can understand how you can mistake this for a conventional AAA title considering how polished the game is and how gorgeous the graphics are.
As for my opinion, this game is one of my favorites in a long time. Great story, characters, graphics, gameplay, and music. Voice acting is by A+ cast who absolutely nailed it. Music best I've heard in a game for a long time. I grew up playing games like Final Fantasy 8, Paper Mario, Mario RPG, and other turn based greats. This brought me back to the fun I had as a child with those games. Turned based isn't for everyone, but man here's hoping this game can get more developers on board with making that genre.

It honestly sounds like you haven't played the game. The hair is fine and was focused on. They literally made different haircuts part of the game. Only thing I can imagine if you are playing the game is your game settings are low enough or monitor bad enough that you aren't getting proper detail on PC. No issues on PS5 at all. Even in the lower graphical settings. Animations and graphics are amazing in this game. The areas look better then almost any other game I have played recently including Final Fantasy XVI on PS5.
Walk 3 feet? There are no random encounters. If you want to avoid fights even in areas with narrow gaps you can pull them to you and run around them. You can use that to grab items as well. I have used it a bunch on maps early that showed as Red because I couldn't likely defeat the enemies in the area at my current level.
Battles are quick and in fact if you learn the mechanics of the game I am not sure a game has ever let you get so OP using the base mechanics before. Once you get the ability to break the 9999 mark you can put up insane amounts of damage.

Yea, it sounds like they're having a skill issue. Just another curmudgeon that can't stand when other people are having fun.

hm... The game is VERY hard. Easy mode I would say is 'normal' and can still be very difficult. If you have a hard time parrying, you will get destroyed.

Game is probably 8/10 if you include its flaws. If you give it a pass on the flaws, its 10/10. Acting/cinematics are awesome. Story is one of the best you'll find. I am near the end btw.
