Be advised. These toothpaste works but is very harsh. Will weaken your inner cheeks tissue with prolonged usage.

My dentist recommended this and I have been using it for a prolonged time and have not had any issues that you have described. Each person is different and some may have more sensative tissues.

My dentist recommended this brand to me as a mouthwash and the lining of my mouth was shedding. I think it has to do personally with an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients and is highly dependent on the person using it.

The active ingredient is stannous fluoride, and a side effect for a lot of people is shedding of the inner mucous lining. This happened to me too, but over time, your mouth seems to get used to it and it doesn't get as bad.

Is this the kind of toothpaste where it's ok to rinse after brushing because the flouride remains in sufficient quantities to fight cavities, or is that something else? I find the idea of not rinsing to be pretty disgusting, like leaving soap on after showering.

Not true at all. I've been using them since 2018 with no issues whatsoever. Maybe you have some kind of an allergy to it and/or just have weak skin in the mouth?
