are these meant to be used while cooking or just storage? i have a "cheap" one and it works for storage but temporarily warps while cooking.

It's just a cover, not for heating food while cooking. I prefer this style since people like to watch me cook. I use domes when I need to melt things.

I dont think its meant for cooking but I have left mine on to help warm up the griddle before and not had any issues.

Hangs on the back while cooking to help block wind otherwise just a cover for storage

I'd check the dimensions. My Charbroil griddle is slightly over 22" so I'm not going to bother. In case it helps (or gives you a laugh), I use a 4 ft Lifetime portable table I got on sale at Costco. A bit heavy, but it fits great and doubles as a serving table.

This comes beat up. Got a replacement but only a little dinged. I like this more than hinged since it doesn't block your view behind the grill.

I have this and if your drain is on the back, this won't hang off the back without causing issues with the stock grease trap.

Hrmm I purchased one of this type of grill and so far haven't had any issues with the grease trap and this cover. Overall though I do prefer the full cover. (I also have a smaller 22 inch grill with a hinged cover)
