Absolute steal, cheaper than Microcenter. Better CPU than a 9900x while costing less. While there are better esports gaming CPUs for low resolutions with low settings, once you go to 1080p ultra or 1440p or 4k, youre mostly GPU bottlenecked even with a 4090 except in some games.
Definitely worth getting at this price.
Indeed. Though if you are like me and your cpu upgrade cadence is long enough that you will require a new mobo with AMD either way, then it doesn't matter
You're talking a year, minimum. Maybe a year and a half. And what's the price then? Someone needing to upgrade now would be fine here. A 3-5 year CPU cycle puts you in the 2nd or 3rd generation on the 1954 socket and any DDR5 parts would transfer over fine.
I'm on a 12700k. Can I make it another year and a half? Yeah. The stuff I do and games I play are fine with a 7800xt GPU and I have a DDR4 board. When I need to upgrade, I have to upgrade several components. But if you're sitting 10th, 11th gen -- you might be well ready for an update today that will carry you another 5 years.

Or maybe they were one of the millions burned by Intel, that knew they had a problem and hid it.

You should definitely overclock this CPU if you are interested in maxing out performance rather than efficiency. This requires a somewhat high end board. Also apparently newest generation Intel really makes use of fast RAM. People are saying you want DDR5 8000mhz which is high end and expensive. But unless you have some very specific use cases (esports gaming or heavily threaded compute tasks) there is little difference in reality and you should buy whatever you can get for the least money as a whole package. Or just go with preferences. AMD tends to treat its customers better and has fewer stupid rules (like overclocking only on top end boards and CPUs) so I generally go with them since the difference is quite minor in the recent years.

The problem is motherboard..... and then you're also often stuck with ATX due to the price.

Mediocre CPU that only last on 1 motherboard. Wait for Nova lake / zen 6
Intel marketing won't let them give us the full performance from Nova either.

Until intel is forced to become competitive through the government bailout they are promising the stockholders AMD is the way.

Psh my 4690k is still going strong
6700k too here but barely starting to show its age on some titles in 4K because of CPU bottleneck.

if you buy this, you will not be able to upgrade in the future like AM5. Stay away from sIntel even you see huge discount! There is a reason why it is cheap.

From what I can tell, they usually keep the socket 2-3 CPU generations. Usually that's not long enough to justify the performance increase to upgrade. That's getting even worse these days with slowing single core performance increases and just increased core count instead.

In my experience, I rarely upgrade the CPU without having to upgrade the motherboard and subsequently even the RAM unfortunately. Missed out on the AM4 boat, and now it sounds like AMD is back to the 2-3 generation cycle for socket change as well.

I know you're talking Intel, but if you went AM5 instead of Socket 1700, you could upgrade right now. And you could probably upgrade in a year and a half, without changing motherboard.

I'd agree that "wait for the next release" only work if you never intended to buy the product and have no need for it.
