I've had this printer for a good 5-6 years and it's been FANTASTIC. I run generic toner in it and it works just fine. I'm tempted to buy another at this price, but feel like there plenty of life left in my current one. Also of note, I've bought many things from VIP over the years and they've all been legit and exactly as described.
I've had this printer for three years or so and it's a complete abomination. Generic toner prints with horrible quality, it rarely connects wirelessly with my phone or computer and the interface is garbage. Was literally shopping to replace this printer yesterday. Avoid

Wow, complete opposite of what someone else wrote here saying it was great. Thanks for the tip.
I've had a similar model for years and it has worked perfectly. Definitely some quality loss with generic toner, but good enough for my purposes. Ditto what someone above said about generic toner causing a popping sound when printing.
I have this printer. The Canon toner is ridiculously expensive but generic toner leaks, leaves marks on the paper and makes the printer constantly recalibrate loudly. Tried 4 or 5 "brands" with the same result. The browser-based interface you use for more complex settings is confusing and difficult to navigate.
But it does print really well when all is the way it likes

I think all printer manufacturers' toners are expensive. Do you know any good brands with cheap toners? Brother, Lexmark?

While slightly different, I have an mf641cw purchaeed about 2 years ago, I will concur that the generic toner makes a click, however mine definitely doesn't leak, though I only have tried the one kind bc I don't print that often. I never have an issue with it connecting to my phone through wifi to print, and I connect every tume I print but dont print consistently. The interface is, well an interface, it's not dos, but it's not iphone simplicity either. I do not recall doing all that much to get it connected and setup besides the manual and a google search. I believe the ones with this flat top scanner are not duplex for those who need it, it apears to not have the automatic document feeder. For the price I think it's very much worth it, but of course everyone's mileage may vary.

Every laser proprietary toner I have ever seen is arbitrarily expensive. Canon it seems had some of the cheapest third party available and from what I had read, wasn't in the business of bricking their products through updates or use of said third party toner. So I went with them when I got a laser for the house a few years ago.

Same exact experience for me.
