I went to see the bob mould band last night, and I was shocked to see so many people my age (dang near 50) not wearing hearing protection. if you go to more that 0 shows per year, buy these. I prefer Eargasm, but these are better than foam, and def better than nothing.

No, only possibly as a first layer of protection in addition to over the ear.

These are for sleep with a silicone body, and more noise reduction. They'll be good for super loud concerts (most are). There is also Loop Experience which uses a plastic body that transmits a bit more sound through the eartip, with less noise reduction. I tend to favor those for concerts (any "musician's" earplug, really).

If you like to stand directly in front of the mains at concerts or clubs, stick with something like this. If you're sitting in the mezzanine, Loop Experience etc. might sound better.

Think of the body of the thing as a microphone. Loop Quiet series is silicone and will bounce more sound off. Loop Experience is plastic and will pick up more sound.

Loop also makes fancy plugs that switch between different levels of isolation, but they're like $60... meh

I have a convertible and have been trying to be better about wearing hearing protection. Wind buffeting is a silent hearing killer...

Anyone have a recommendation for a larger set? I feel like the typical ones I try lately go too far in. Especially on one ear. That said haven't bought any quality sets recently. I used to have an etymotic? set that did come in large but can no longer find. Cheers.

Have you tried those loop switch before? If so what are your thoughts? Do they actually work in each different mode?

I haven't tried, price is too high. If I'm going to a concert I'll just bring a suitable earplug for live music.

I bought the loop switch 1 on woot a few weeks ago. I haven't gone to a show since then but I played music loudly at home and I could definitely tell the difference between the 3 settings

Nice. How the comfort? Do you think you could sleep comfortably with them on? And on the highest block setting, does it completely block out noise?

They are a harder plastic so I don't use them for sleep but they are comfortable to wear otherwise. This quiet 2 that's on sale is soft and flexible which I think would be good for sleeping in. The one I have will block out the air conditioner. I can still hear music though if it's loud enough

I use these under a pair of 3M non-electronic muffs from HD. Works fine at indoor ranges. You're not going to hear your buddy or the RSO super well, if that's an issue. Last time out I was in a lane next to a SBR'd AR and it was still really fing loud...wish people would keep those at the outdoor ranges.
