I would say the only time you need to use better pods is if you have hard water
….but wouldn't that be twice the cost per wash?!
Not sure about these but the ones from Costco are unusable as they have an awful perfume stench that lingers on dishes, especially plastic.

I recently ran out of Sam's club pods which were top rated in consumer reports at last check, and bought Kirkland. Maybe I'm off base, but I think Sam's is superior.
Off the bat, Sam's comes with rinse aid on each packet, but dishes have been dirtier. I also cleaned the filter just before we switched over.
