Even with the wired connection, the E340 uses the battery as its primary power source. The wired power is primarily used to maintain the battery's charge, not directly power the doorbell. "
I can confirm they are both required during setup. Don't think you can get away without a wired connection.
I am in the Eufy ecosystem and can confirm it is an excellent doorbell for a great price. Paid $180 for mine.
