I'm no expert, as I only own one pair of Allen Edmonds, and I know that many Goodyear welted shoes are stiff at first, but it seems like the models I've tried on at Nordstrom rack seemed more stiff and less comfortable than pairs from Nordstrom, direct from AE, or other retailers. Did I just try a couple of pairs that weren't perfect for me or does AE make lower tier shoes specifically for discount retailers? Does anyone know for sure rather than just speculating? Just curious. Thanks!

Many AE shoes at Nordstrom Rack or Off Saks ect are made for discounters. The easiest way to tell is if they are imported(though not all AEs are made in the USA, most Goodyear welted are) or aren't available on the AE website.
