You don't want to spend your money on a quartz movement that literally costs cents to make today. Save the 189$ and put it towards the automatic which will have value for your kids one day as a hand me down.

problem with <500 auto watch is that it will cost you ~200 to maintain later on.

FWIW, I've placed two orders on different occasions with Ashford and they've canceled both. I'm completely over the customer service there. Both times they've claimed the item was OOS so obvious their inventory isn't reflecting in real time and it took them nearly 10 days to refund me each time. Just a very annoying way of doing business.

wow slickdeals deleted my reply. Nevermind. I was going to comment on how to maintain a good automatic or mechanical watch but no one even cares anymore. Enjoy the quartz.

Seriously so many people spend $100-200 on cheap automatics not realizing in 3-4 years it needs to be serviced which probably cost more than the watch itself. Meanwhile a cheap quartz will keep better time than a $10,000 automatic.

They definitely don't need to be maintained that often. Think 10-20 years. Fwiw I love quartz watches. I've always thought it was backwards that quartz and the science behind it is subpar to automatically watches.

It's 2025 nobody is handing down watches to family. People that like the watch should just buy it and enjoy it.

I'm a watch enthusiast with over 70 watches. I personally disagree. While I have mostly automatics, quartz is on equal footing in a piece like this. It is far more accurate and should provide 30 years or so of functionality with some care and battery changes.

An auto even double this price point will need servicing costing as much as the watch at least twice during that time and a beat up cheap watch will have little value other than "this was dads"

And by the time we are ready for a pass down watches could be way out of fashion. Even today the vast majority do not wear a traditional watch any longer. Lots of digital sales

Just buy what you personally like at this price point. Imo

I love automatics and my collection is like 75% autos... but autos aren't for everyone. Quartz keeps time better and is easier to maintain. Not everyone is a watch guy.

I've had this watch since 2010, it's very accurate, only gains 10 seconds between Daylight Saving Time changes when I reset the watch's time. It has a seven-jewel quartz movement which is almost identical to the Omega 1538 movement. I have small wrists so the 38mm size is perfect.
