I bought mine in 2010 from Ashford. It came with the original box and brochures. Based on its workmanship and accuracy, I doubt that it's fake. I don't think Ashford sells fake watches. If Hamilton quit making it, these could be old stock.

i like a good solid quartz watch from a swatch brand as much as the next guy but Ashford has listed this listing wrong. it's a 24 hour (or mil time) watch and NOT a GMT watch. GMT implies that you can track a second timezone in some capacity, but it's only a 3 hander with a date complication. still a pretty nice field watch.

How is it backwards and subpar? Quartz watches are more accurate than mechanical ones.If you leave a quartz watch alone for up to 2 years it will likely have kept time over that period.

Leave your mechanical watch alone for more than two weeks it won't be keeping time until you wind it and set it again.

FWIW, I own about 15 mechanical watches and 10 quartz watches.

My first nice watch was a 38mm Hamilton. I have an average wrist and the watch looked too small. Also the smaller the watch face the harder it is to see the details so it is not just relative to one's wrist size when choosing size

It depends on the watch. Since we're talking about Hamilton, let's use them as an example. You can send an automatic or hand wound Hamilton watch (with no complications) to their service center, and they will service it for $220 (per their website). Maybe you're thinking higher end?

Interesting! I actually hadn't looked at the Hamilton website for the cost to service. That's good to know, thanks. Yeah for an independent they don't typically differentiate by brand, because the amount of work to service is still the same. IE the guy who worked on my Speedmaster was a $450 base cost for the chrono, plus parts. So total servicing was over $900. But he didn't charge less for servicing a Seiko, since the amount of work was the same to him.

I'll make sure to never take my Seiko to an independent servicer! Haha Not sure if this interests you, but I also own a Speedmaster, and Omega will service it for the same price as your independent shop, assuming it's not precious metal. You may really like who you're working with now, but I thought I'd throw that out there. I like sticking with the manufacturer to avoid any warranty issues or "Frankensteining" of the components.

Both the ones I have a vintage, and Omega is not great about maintaining the vintage appeal of their watches - typically will replace hands, bezel, etc as they deem necessary. They do at least return the parts, but it's not what I would want for any vintage watch.

Ah that makes sense. I just got mine new last year, so that wasn't a consideration for me. Good info about Omega's treatment of vintage pieces. I've had my eye on a vintage seamaster. If I pull the trigger, I'll make sure to keep it away from Omega. 😂
