Do people really pay $4.71/lb for dog food? That regular price is more expensive than chicken or burger.

Which ones did you get? I just rescued a German shepherd and Husky mix (still kind of a puppy).

Just a note that Orijen's parent company was purchased by Mars Inc. a couple years ago, and indications seem to be (as you'd expect) they're cutting back on quality. Hence these sales have been popping up every few months.

Amazon should really reset reviews when this sort of corporate ownership changes happen.

Just sort by most recent.Amazon being the giantest of the giant corporations is unlikely to be sympathetic to your cause.

Because many folks have been suckered into the "grain free" fad for their dogs, when in reality, only dogs with certain health problems or specific grain allergies should be fed grain free. There are no other health benefits and in fact is usually worse for most dogs.

Someone will undoubtedly reply or just say something like "where do dogs eat corn meal in the wild?" or some other strawman argument, as if what a dog scrounges up in the wild (dogs aren't wild animals) would be better or even good for them.

Cat foods too, fyi. Strongly recommend this brand, it's what my mother (a veterinarian) has me feeding my cat and her cat.

Grain free is not for everydog. We tried this and out dogs breath was horrendous even with our daily teeth brushing. We stopped it and the bad breath was gone. We are now on openfarm and it's been great but it's pricy

Little advice, be careful buying Dry Food brands that originally is "vacuum sealed", the couple of times I order from Amazon, it never came vacuum sealed, the "puncture" the package all the time, probably to be able to stock it easier in their warehouse, but the package will lost their freshness.

I think if you put a bowl of fresh meat and a bowl of dog food in front of a dog, you find out real quick which one they prefer.

Nutrition goes beyond just hitting your macronutrients and micronutrients - you could certainly make some sort of paste or protein bar that is perfectly balanced nutritionally, but you certainly wouldn't want to eat that for every meal for the rest of your life. As a matter of fact, feeding bland but nutritionally complete food is used as a form of punishment in prison e.g. nutraloaf.

There's a psychological aspect to eating good food - having a nice steak or a fresh apple for example can significantly alter your mood and feeling of overall wellbeing. It's the same for dogs and cats -feeding them just dry pebbles day after day is lazy, and borderline abusive.

What does that have to do with grain free dry dog food being needed or healthy for most dogs? Seems like you have a misunderstanding in what was written.

Nothing of what I said meant anything other than "most dogs don't need a grain free dog food".
