Someone will undoubtedly reply or just say something like "where do dogs eat corn meal in the wild?" or some other strawman argument, as if what a dog scrounges up in the wild (dogs aren't wild animals) would be better or even good for them.

Nutrition goes beyond just hitting your macronutrients and micronutrients - you could certainly make some sort of paste or protein bar that is perfectly balanced nutritionally, but you certainly wouldn't want to eat that for every meal for the rest of your life. As a matter of fact, feeding bland but nutritionally complete food is used as a form of punishment in prison e.g. nutraloaf.
There's a psychological aspect to eating good food - having a nice steak or a fresh apple for example can significantly alter your mood and feeling of overall wellbeing. It's the same for dogs and cats -feeding them just dry pebbles day after day is lazy, and borderline abusive.

Nothing of what I said meant anything other than "most dogs don't need a grain free dog food".
