Clipping the end off a brand new spool of filament isn't common practice? I always do this on a new spool to ensure a completely clean end.

This stuff has even 4 star reviews saying don't use it in your AMS. Every Filament Management System on the planet can use PETG, so what's wrong with this filament. Not sure if it is worth the savings of a few bucks to put your expensive printers through this.

Based on the reviews, it sounds like it's mostly an issue of the shape of the spools + the way Sunlu "hook" the starting end of the filament into the spool, meaning it jams up the AMS. I don't think those issues are a problem with the filament itself, but more compatibility of Sunlu's physical.spooling with AMS/AMS Lite.
More generally, there are some mixed reviews (as you would expect), but generally positive and lots of examples of well-printed stuff using this filament.
I really like Sunlu PLA+, so might give this a shot ($10/kg seems like the sweet spot for good deals on standard filament types).

That was the first thing I learned and have done it every time I switch spools, along with a 45⁰ cut to make it easier to snake through everything.

They are talking about the end of the roll (the last bit of filament on the inside of the roll) not the outside piece you feed into the ams first

I've had horrible luck with their PLA filament on my P1S with textured PEI plate. This is literally the only filament that I have adhesion issues.
So far I'm having good luck and catching deals on Anycubic, eSun, PolyMaker, and Overture. Sure I pay $13-$16 instead of $10 but I also don't come home to a 6 hour printer that lost adhesion halfway through and made me a spaghetti surprise.

I know this is PETG so not going to upvote or downvote but as a brand I have no trust.

I run Sunlu PETG in my Bambu A1 and A1 mini, Anycubic Kobra S1, and Elegoo Centauri Carbon with no problem.

I just placed a second order for this filament, PETG to be specific.

I've used Bambu Labs Filament, SUNLU, and Creality.

I had issues with Creality. SUNLU mine as well be Bambu branded to me. It works perfectly in my AMS

This is my go-to anytime filament on Amazon. Anytime I can get them for under $10 a roll I go and get them. petg is my main filament I use I use it more than pla. It's stronger. I love how the colors gleam(sometimes too much) I don't use ironing. I use this filament on the AMS and AMS Light. Also use it on anycubics Ace multicolor system as well and they all work fine. You just may need an adapter for the AMS light to lock it in so it doesn't fall off if it's vertically mounted) By far these are the best deals because they're consistently under $10 a roll and it's fast shipping. So I usually always order the primary colors white black blue red stuff I'm going to use consistently.

No some are saying it is dirty filament, extremely brittle, and not properly working with fairly standard PETG printing specs.

I'm a complete n00b to 3D printing, and I have been fine using Sunlu PLA and PETG in my P1S. PLA prints perfectly out of the bag, and PETG was dried to 15% before printing. I happen to live in a dry climate also. I had one case where it did not adhere, so I used some Elmer's purple glue stick on the bed as recommended in forums, which solved the problem. I wash off the glue after printing, and since it turns purple when wet, it's easy to see. I don't need any at the moment, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy more if I did.

interesting - i wonder what the issue there is? i suspect ive put around 100kg of sunlu pla (i can see 50+ rolls in my recent amazon purchases) and petg through my a1 and a1 mini, both with standard pei plates. i add brims where it seems appropriate but that shouldn't be the solution if this is the only filament that's not working out for you
