Not defending anything but MSG here, but it's been shown almost all negative claims about it do not hold up through research and testing. Folks can think of it as just a different flavor of salt at this point.

These are the worst ingredients you can imagine... MSG, sodium nitrite, corn syrup, etc.

How so? 5g isn't bad for a small stick. I buy the tiny ones at Sams Club and they have 4gr each. Just eat a few through the day.

ground beef is around 25g protein for 140 calories (which these sticks are). how much corn syrup is in these if they are only 5g of protein for 140 cal

the majority of the calories of those jerky came from the 12 g fat per stick, not the protein. Since there is 9 calories per gram of fat, it would count up to 108 calories already.

IDK where you're getting your information from, but even 4oz 85/15 ground beef only have 21 grams of protein and is 240 calories. https://www.urmc.rochester.edu/en...id=23567-3
Since these are 1/4 of that, 1 oz each, 5 grams of protein is totally acceptable for the size. I understand your argument is the calorie to protein content, in which case a meat stick of any kind is not a great option and you should be looking at protein bars.

That "100% Beef" labeling is concerned ONLY with the "Beef" part of the ingredients and has absolutly nothing to do with anything else in the product. It is a loophole exploited in advertising by every food manufacturer in the USA. The FDA knows about it, but will not change it.

Side note, it does however mean that there are no beef byproducts used in place of actual beef. If that's of any comfort.

Cheers,
