These are super efficient heat pump AC units which makes it stupid that they don't have a reverse function and also provide heat it would cost nothing to add that feature.
How are these comparing to Midea U-Shaped AC's? Nice shape, but are they reliable? The Midea's are excellent, hoping these are just as good.
EDIT: This deal is for a regular type, not the inverter type. So no comparison to the Midea U-shaped unit. I am still curious how GE's inverter AC compares.

Same- Really looking for an inverter with heat pump functionality. I see the same Amazon ad has the 10k inverter U-style window unit for $100 more but still only A/C, no heating.

I bought a restored Danby 8k AC unit last year, and I can tell you I'm never going back to a traditional AC. These are easy to install; I just set the bracket and place the unit (I didn't screw or secure it -- but you may want to). They are quiet, efficient, and allow the window to be closed to a point where it is less of a security issue, and less noise pollution from the outside comes in. I only wish 5 or 6K units were available, since the weight of an 8K is noticeable.

these are not "super efficient" as they are not inverter type.
oh they aren't thought the split design like these were inverter type
nope, certainly not all of them, this one is NOT, however GE does have a 10,000btu model of this form that IS inverter, of course it costs more. Media has one that is U shaped but in the other direction, above the sil, that is also inverter. Inverter is such a selling point that if they don't mention it specifically and loudly, it probably isn't.

oh , I just thought they were. I bought a mini split so wasn't really researching these too hard.
Midea sold a non-shape through either Costco or Sam's, but I think it's discontinued. I picked one up locally that was 6 months old for $50, but the heat pump isn't that great. Only works down to 40 degrees, so I never use it. The A/C part is virtually the same, however, so I got quite a bargain.

doesn't matter, works perfect if your name isnt karen. just all the endless regulations in the usa require all these recalls. look at cars, each one gets recalled at least 100 times for minor issues
mold is overrated anyway, i used to live in a apt where the whole closet with air handler was full of mold unbeknownst to me and i was fine. more recently i had a little by my ac vent in one bathroom (fixed now). it's just one of those things where noone can prove anything so Karen's can say it caused their hair to fall out and whatever cant be actually proven. like chronic fatigue syndrome or long covid. not too say mold is a good thing,. but being honest it aint gonna hurt you in 99% of cases. otherwise the billions of poor people in the 3rd world would all fall dead
i have one of the midea u shaped in my garage stashed for a rainy day when my central hvac fails, wont hesitate to use it. maybe i'll keep an eye out for mold is all.
